I happened upon this carving of a mermaid in the sand. Not pictured is an adjacent carving of another creature I can only describe as part human, part horse. A bystander informed me that he had observed the artist(s) at work, they are art students and this was a homework assignment! You see the most amazing things at Coney Island.
