The Sky's The Limit











Last day of August, always makes me feel a bit sad. Summer's winding down. But my mood improved as I photographed the glorious clouds. September will bring more of the same.

No Rest for the Weary




Swimming was prohibited at Coney Island today due to an impending tropical storm, but at least one homeless person sought rest and refuge on the beach. There is alot of poverty, homelessness and drug addiction as well as violent gang activity in the neighborhood. On the plus side, there are community gardeners, church members and other concerned citizens/outreach groups doing their best to help overcome these serious problems.

Yesterday I found this arrangement near the jetty at Bay 20, Coney Island. Various fruits, candle, flowers, incense. Does anyone have any insight into this kind of "offering"?

The "New" Dreamland







I strolled through the "new" Dreamland, site of the former Astroland. I met brothers Ryan who runs the Mini Ferris Wheel, and Eddie, in charge of The Banana. Lots of other new rides and attractions!

You Meet the Nicest People at the Beach




Community Gardens are Alive and Well




I am grateful to be a member of the Surfside Community Garden, Surf Avenue at West 29th Street. Growing tomatoes for the first time in my life! My friends at the garden are doing a wonderful job helping young people in the neighborhood get involved in gardening.

Coney Island Lifeguards Rock!




Lifeguards have been getting a bad rap lately, but most of them are doing a great job. People can save their own lives by swimming only where lifeguards are on duty.
